A recent inquest revealed that a 10-year-old, Shay Kang, succumbed to a chest wound. The child was discovered deceased at a residence on Robin Close, Rowley Regis, at approximately 12:10 pm on Monday, March 4.
In the wake of the incident, the child’s mother, Jaskirat Kaur, a 33-year-old woman, was accused of murder. She made a court appearance via video link from HMP Foston Hall at Wolverhampton Crown Court on March 7 and was detained pending a future court date set for April 22.
During a brief session at the Black Country Coroner’s Court on Thursday, March 21, it was confirmed that the cause of death was due to stab injuries. The inquest has been postponed to an undetermined date, and the area coroner for Black Country, Joanne Lees, stated: “The passing of Shay Kang was brought to the attention of the coroner by the West Midlands Police.”
“Authorities informed the coroner that upon their arrival at the Robin Close location, they discovered the child, referred to here as Shay Kang, lifeless on the premises. A forensic examination was performed, and the medical examiner determined the cause of death to be stab injuries to the chest.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has advised me that an individual has been charged with a criminal act related to the demise of Shay Kang Based on the information currently available, I concur that it is proper to commence the inquest proceedings.”
“I will pause my coronial inquiry and defer the inquest until the criminal proceedings have concluded.” The passing of the young pupil deeply affected the Rowley Regis community, prompting an outpouring of tributes near the residence.
The child was a student at Brickhouse Primary School, which described her as an “intelligent” student in a statement released via West Midlands Police the day after the tragic discovery. A representative for the school expressed: “The student was an intelligent, cheerful, and spirited child, cherished by everyone. Her absence will be profoundly felt by the entire school community.
“As the cornerstone of the community, our school has initiated measures to provide our children and staff with the necessary support during this difficult period.”
