Hussain sisters, 39 year old Mhreen and 37 year old Sabeen have recently completed their Access course with Distinction at Bournville College, which takes them a step closer to becoming teachers.
Access to Higher Education Diploma is a one year qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university.
Before starting their Access course, the sisters, who have eight children between them, were full-time mothers and were involved in community work in their spare time.
They will be attending University of Birmingham in September, which is ranked 14th in the country according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Sabeen has dreamt of going to university since she was 7, when she used to travel passed Aston University on the bus. Now she is excited to be fulfilling her dream.
Mhreen was inspired at primary school to become a teacher and now that her children are grown-up, she too is fulfilling a lifetime ambition.
When asked what advice they would give to future Access students, they both agreed by saying “Attitude is important. It’s an intense course, but enjoyable and worth it.”
They were keen to stress “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You learn more from your mistakes than from your successes.”
