An armed robber jumped over a counter at Wolverhampton Road Post Office in Walsall and loaded up hundreds of pounds worth of cigarettes into a bag on 21 November last year has been jailed.
Asif Jhangeer, 39, was tackled by a woman who entered the store after hearing the commotion, he left the knife on the counter and as they tussled she was able to remove a glove he was wearing and police were able to Identify him from the DNA.
Jhangeer, of Cameron Road, Walsall, pleaded guilty to the armed robbery and was jailed for three years and four months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday 10 April.
DC Andy Atkinson, from Force CID at Bloxwich, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the shop worker who was threatened with the knife.
“But thanks to the brave actions of the member of the public who confronted Jhangeer we were able to secure vital DNA evidence.
“This left Jhangeer with little choice but to plead guilty and put him behind bars.”
