A man who hid a firearm behind the driver’s seat of BMW has been jailed after a tip-off led to a deadly sawn-off shotgun being found.
Amardeep Jit, 25, was arrested at his home address in West Avenue, Handsworth Wood shortly after midday on November 6.
Police officers discovered the gun and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag.
Gun-carrier Jit admitted possession of a firearm and was jailed for five years at Birmingham Crown Court on December 7.
DC Rory Juss, from the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), said: “This was a potentially fatal weapon in the wrong hands and is another dangerous firearm taken off our streets.
“During police interview Jit refused to answer questions on why the gun was in his possession and what his intentions were.
“We remain determined to tackle those holding guns and who could be linked to wider gun crime.” On November 21, officers from the Birmingham Organised Crime and Gangs Team swooped to make three arrests in Wootton Close, Knowle, Solihull, after another a pistol – believed to be linked to gun crime – was found hidden in a bag.
