West Midlands Police were then after called to the blaze at 7am on Thursday, tweeting video footage from inside the house. The fire destroyed the roof of the property – and exposed a large-scale drugs farm.
Firefighters called to statements of a house blaze in Bordesley Green exposed a bumper haul of cannabis plants with a street value of £200,000.
The fire tore through the roof of the terraced property on Blake Lane and is thought to have been sparked by defective electrical equipment.
It shows officers from the Cannabis Team wearing breathing apparatus, as they examine the residues of the roof.
Electrical equipment can be seen hanging from a huge gaping hole in the ceiling, while a huge number of potted cannabis plants appear to have lasted the blaze.
The Cannabis Team tweeted: “We work in the most dangerous of conditions many times a day.
“This fire dealt, with by West Midlands Fire Service, prevented it spreading to neighbouring properties.
“This is our everyday.
“We train hard to make this easy for us.
“All of the Cannabis Team are skilled operators in dangerous environments.”
No arrests were made after the finding and police investigations continue.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police alleged: “Police were called to Blake Lane, Bordesley Green, by West Midlands Fire Service just before 7am today (2 August), where the remains of a large cannabis factory were discovered.
“The blaze is believed to have been started by faulty electrical equipment being used to grow the drugs.
“Over 200 plants were seized with an estimated street value of £200,000.
“The investigation continues.”
Cannabis factory raids are a common occurrence all across the city.
