Bystanders gathered outside as armed police and ambulance crews raced to the scene where a mass brawl broke out which reportedly included the use of weapons.

Four people, who were badly hurt have also been arrested.

A local resident in Alum Rock, who didn’t want to be named, said: “Yeah, I witnessed it.

“The owners called for help and it was just carnage, people were watching in shock from outside the window.

“Metal poles from inside the shop were used – there was just blood everywhere inside the shop. That’s why they’ve got a police tent blocking it today.”

Another bystander, speaking just yards away from the crime scene, added: “This was all blocked off yesterday, you had armed police, paramedics.

“I saw a woman who had blood seeping from her head, she was led away by police officers.

“The shutters were pulled down and that’s when you could hear lots of screaming and shouting.

“I don’t know what’s going on in Birmingham lately but it’s not good. It’s all going downhill.”

The shop has been cordoned off and two officers are standing guard outside the shop, where rails of clothing remain outside.

Police have confirmed two men, one aged 24 and the other of unknown age; and two women, aged 22 and 46, were injured in the incident.

In a statement, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a disorder in a shop on Alum Rock Road at around 5.40pm yesterday (21 July).

“A number of people were reported to have been fighting with weapons.

“Three people were treated in hospital for minor injuries and have been arrested.

“A fourth person remains in hospital with a fractured eye socket and is also under arrest.

“Searches continue at the scene today.

“At this stage, we believe it to be an isolated incident, but investigations are continuing.

“Officers are examining CCTV, and anyone with footage of the incident has been asked to contact police on 101.”
