Rosemary Carroll was suspended for 3 months over a racist joke. Pendle’s Mayor has been suspended for 3 months by the Tories for communicating a “racist” joke on social media. Councillor Rosemary Carroll has been suspended after an inquiry. This is after Councillor Carroll disclosed as “abusive, insulting and racist” rant on her Facebook account which users took offence to.
Many wrote the Labour borough leader, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal. He penned to the Pendle Council’s corporate director and monitoring Officer Philip Mousdale questioning if the rant broke the code of conduct put in place for councillors. He additionally contacted to the Conservative group’s leader, Councillor Joe Cooney requesting for Cllr Carroll’s suspension.
Cllr Carroll, whose Mayoral term finished in May and dubbed as “First Citizen” was instantly suspended from the Conservative Party and the Facebook post for taken off of her account on Facebook.
After a discussion on the Conservative Association Executive, which is comprised of the people of Pendle, Councillor Carroll has been suspended from the Party for a minimum period of 3 months starting from August 4 2017 to November 4 2017.
Independently, Pendle Council panel on the 14th August has in addition chose to ban Cllr Carrol on the committees of the council rather than the region committee for a year.
But the panel has in addition recommended the complete council to condemn her, to make the account on the results of the enquiry public and for her to be trained in the use of social media.
Cllr McCormick had said in a report: “While the original post wasn’t directly from Rosemary Carroll, the content was abusive, insultive and racist.
“As an association we will not tolerate anything that brings the party into disrepute.
“It is therefore the decision of the Executive that Rosemary Carroll be suspended from the Conservative Party for a period of three months starting from August 4, 2017 up to and including the November 4, 2017.
“Before admittance back into the party, Rosemary Carroll will be required to undergo and pass diversity training as agreed by the Association Chairman.”
