East Shopping Centre decked out the festivities when the Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales; Lyn Brown MP and singing sensation Arjun, together switched on the Christmas
Lights, in a special event on Tuesday November 22nd.
Hosted by Sunrise Radio presenter, Shabnam Sahi, the event saw hundreds
of people celebrate as the lights were officially turned on, before heartthrob
Arjun gave an exclusive performance singing some of his biggest hit songs and
serenading one lucky fan.
Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham said: “East Shopping Centre continues
to be a bustling shopping hug in Green Street and the Christmas lights will be a
welcome attraction for all visitors to the area to enjoy.”
Lyn Brown MP for West Ham said: “I was delighted to have been invited to
turn on East Shopping Centre’s Christmas lights. The Centre is
located in a wonderfully diverse part of Newham and the turnout by the
community was testament to the success it has achieved in the short
time it has been there. Rather than waiting for Black Friday and dodgy deals, I
would encourage shoppers to visit the East Shopping Centre and shop local for
Christmas. There are some great savings to be found on Green Street. I wish
everyone working and visiting Green Street over the next month a very Happy
Christmas and prosperous New Year.”
Arjun said: “Thanks to East Shopping Centre for inviting me to switch on their
Christmas lights and perform – what an amazing crowd! I’ve had a great time
exploring East, a vibrant hub for the Asian community in the area. It was a
pleasure to switch on the Christmas lights and meet the local fans. I hope to be
back again soon.”
The event also marked the beginning of the East Winter Sale, which is
offering unbeatable offers and discounts of up to 75% off in select shops and
the launch of East’s newest restaurant, American diner Route 58.
Since officially launching in March 2015, East has welcomed well over two
million visitors, contributing to the development of East London’s iconic Green
Street, E7 and making the mall a benchmark shopping destination for the British Asian community.
East has also become a prime destination for wedding shoppers, and features
a range of outlets retailing in everything from chic couture to everyday wear at
highly competitive prices. The Food Court has also become a hotspot for local
