I wanted to share the story of how we met. Hopefully this will inspire and motivate those of you who are going through the motions of dating. This is our story…
Kamey and I met at an SBS event. We’ve been together for about a year and a half, and wow, what a rollercoaster it’s been!
I had always found it hard to meet new people and was never keen on online dating or singles events. I had joined a few Asian dating websites, but none of the guys on there were really on my wavelength. They were either looking to get engaged after a few weeks, or just after a hook-up!
I was looking for more. A relationship with a deeper connection, a man with purpose and ambition, and a relationship where my partner and I could push each other and grow to be the best version of ourselves. Isn’t that what we all want? I wasn’t asking for a lot!
At the time, I was feeling a bit uninspired and not really motivated to date. Then a friend told me about an Asian dating seminar she had seen on Twitter. I remember saying, “A dating seminar?? That’s different!” I was curious.
So I went. It just so happened that Kamey was running the seminar.
We got talking after the seminar and he told me why he started SBS; the problems, frustrations and stress British Asians face and how no one was talking about it. I could totally relate! He said he was fed up with how things were, and how he wanted to change British Asian dating forever.
All these things he was saying, they were things that I had cared about my whole life. Things I knew needed changing. But it had never occurred to me that I could actually do anything about it. I couldn’t believe he was saying all this. I knew I needed to be a part of it.
He was struggling to find the right girl for him, so he created SBS to find her (And he did!😋). At the time SBS was just a blog (and the odd seminar), and Kamey was working as a university lecturer. Teaching and helping people is what he was all about. And I loved that he wanted to do that for our culture. Because we need it!
We exchanged numbers and said it would be good to meet up sometime.
We went on our first date the next day! And honestly, it’s like that night has never ended.
We had so much in common. We had similar work backgrounds, and were passionate about a lot of the same things. We shared the same values, and we wanted the same things in life.
As we were dating, I started to help him out with SBS. Me just helping out on his blog, turned into a fully fledged company that we now run together! It was made with love ❤️
Now, we’re breaking down barriers, broadening horizons, and making a real difference on a daily basis, which is something I have always dreamed of. We’re pushing for a cultural shift that has been massively needed in British Asian society for decades.
What we’re doing has never been done before. A dating company run by a real couple, who have been through all the same struggles and frustrations you have. We get it!
It’s time to celebrate love! Finding your soulmate shouldn’t be a chore. It should be exciting! Together we’re bringing back the fun, mystery, and curiosity in dating. My journey was hard, but I’ve enjoyed it!
Kamey couldn’t find a girl, so he made his own company to find her. The other Asian dating sites didn’t offer any help or support. So we made one that does!
I’ll be honest with you, I had to change a lot of things about myself first, before I was ready to actually meet the right person and before I could have a real relationship. I learnt that you shouldn’t just settle for mediocre guys, or someone who just wants to get married.
I hope our story inspires and motivates you to keep going until you find true love, like I did.
