The German Interior Minister, Thomas de Maiziere, has announced new anti-terror measures to combat any upcoming terror attacks.

The decision follow a spate of terror attacks that swept across France, Belgium and Germany. One new measures is to speed up the deportation of asylum seekers convicted of crimes.

During the German terror attacks, it was found that the gunman that killed nine in a Munich shopping mall was mentally ill. It was also found that the bomber who killed himself and seriously injured others at a music festival was also mentally ill. As such, Germany is to lift doctor-patient confidentiality if the doctor suspects criminal activity.

It is alleged that state minister from Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union party want to implement yet more security plans. These plans include introducing 15,000 more police officers, increasing public surveillance cameras, doing away with dual citizenship and imposing a burqa ban. As of now, it is illegal to hide one’s face in a football stadium.

Other powers to be introduced include a police cyber defence unit and the right to investigate those as young as fourteen.

The new laws have caused severe outcry over discrimination. Meizere said “My proposals are limited to the points that can lead to more security rapidly.”

According to the Deputy Head of Bavaria’s Intelligence Services, Manfred Hauser, the risk of a major terrorist attack in Germany is high. There are mounting fears that IS is sending teams into European countries disguised as refugees.

Maiziere is to sign the Berlin Declaration on August 18th then await approval from Bundesrat, the lower house of parliament.
