Screenwriting Brits Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson are to make a movie adaptation of Leicester City’s shocking win. Leicester City found glory at the English Premier League this year, beating odds of 5000-1 to take home victory.

Now this remarkable underdog story of improbable success is being made into a film by writers Tamasy and Johnson, who also wrote the screenplay for The Fighter which went on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Adrian Butchart, writer of Goal: The Dream Begins, is also to work on the film.

Tamasy told Deadline “the story represents everything we love in a movie.”

Johnson said “this is more than a sports film. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime story about the fulfilment of impossible dreams and the strength of the human spirit.

“It’s also a hell of a lot of fun. I’m extremely excited and proud to be a part of it.”

The film is to centre on top striker Jamie Vardy and his struggle from factory worker to footballing hero. Vardy has since gone down in Leicester City’s Hall of Fame after having made EPL history.

The film has yet to begin production or casting.
