We are excited to announce the Big John’s Birmingham Mela this weekend on Sunday 31st July at Cannon Hill Park from 12pm to 8pm. The mela, which is free to attend, will include all the best food, art, sport, entertainment and culture from south Asian communities.
BBC Asian network presenters Tommy Sandhu and Noreen Khan are to host the mela which includes live music from multiple artists. Superstar singer Imran Khan is to headline the event. Other performers include Bonafride, Asif Khan, Zack Knight, Juggy D, Rameet and B21.
Yemani Music Group, RnR Dancer and New Creativity are also to perform.
Attractions include a martial arts display, funfair rides, a fashion show, a clothing bazaar, jewellery and music and crafts stalls. Sportswise, there will be a Kabbadi tournament for all to take part in.
Catering includes a whole array of traditional Asian food.
The Chair of the Birmingham Mela Steering Group, Cllr Maraim Khan, said “Big John’s Birmingham Mela is a fantastic opportunity for people to come together to celebrate our city’s diverse cultures.
“With a wide array of attractions, entertainments and food, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s event, which is set to be even bigger and better.
“We are delighted to be delivering Birmingham Mela in association with Big John’s, without whom this free family event would not be possible.”
The mela is funded by corporate sponsorship, stalls sales and an Arts Council England grant. Free parking is available at Edgbaston Stadium, home of Warwickshire County Cricket Ground, and Calthorpe Park, off Pershore Road. Visitors are encouraged to public transportation if possible.
