Next year’s Mercedes-Benz S-Class 500 E Electric Hybrid will be presenting motorists with wireless charging. This is good news for electric motorists who don’t want to fiddle with cables and plugs. All you have to do is drive over a plate and leave the car to charge itself.
The 2017 update on the existing Mercedes 500 plug-in hybrid will have turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, offering an electric-only range of approximately 20 miles.
Owners will be to position their car over a distinct coil in a secure base plate. A message in the car will make the driver aware of when their car is in a transmittable location.
The second coil which will be present in the car will then create an electromagnetic field that will perform as a transporter of electrical energy at a power response of 3.6kWh.
Mercedes asserts a number of 90% efficiency for the system that is only marginally lesser than the number for plugging in, so charging times will only be slightly lengthier.
