33-year-old Azad Chaiwala, who created a dating website that helps men find second wives, insists that the service promotes fidelity, morality and old-fashioned family values.
The dating website already has 35,000 members, most of which are from West Midlands.
It has been very successful among Muslim men, so much that another website, for Westerners has opened up and it is growing in popularity among women.
The 33-year-old entrepreneur has stated that he has so much faith in his product that he would choose his next two wives from the company, but warned that he is “picky”.
Encouraged by the site’s accomplishments, Chaiwala has launched a dating service for people of all faiths, Polygamy.com, which has a banner saying: “Welcome to the world of polygamy”.
Since its launch earlier this year, it has enticed more than 7,000 members.
Users are welcomed with a picture of a cheerful, multi-cultural family and the declaration: “We want bigger, stronger families.”
However, not everyone has the same vision as Chaiwala.
Muslim MP Khalid Mahmood has called the endeavor “stupid”.
Member of Parliament for Perry Barr advised that women entering a polygamous relationship were removing any financial rights that are typically involved in a marriage.
In a surprisingly candid interview, Chaiwala said: “Polygamy, across all religions is more popular than ever.”
He also declared that he intended to use SecondWife.com to find two more partners, much to his Leicester wife’s dismay.
“There is not a woman on earth who would be totally comfortable with it,” he said.
“Even the Prophet Muhammad’s wives showed signs of jealousy. I’m quite picky.”
The UK law surrounding multiple wives is quite clearly illegal, with bigamy holding a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
However, Chaiwala emphasizes that he is not supporting a criminal act.
The entrepreneur said that his religion permits a man to have up to four wives, as long as they give permission and agree to the arrangement.
“This is my wedding, I do not need to have a piece of paper,” Chiawala said.
“Is it illegal to have a mistress?”
He believes that he is providing a service that prevents loneliness among married women, decreased infidelity and stopped the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
He is also certain that polygamy will sooner or later be made legal in Britain.
“People go to a nightclub and have a one-night stand and that’s the end of it,” he explained.
“Men go with prostitutes; people look for dogging sites; there are swingers’ clubs.
“A man wants to get married to multiple partners in an honourable manner, he wants to share his love and resources – why do you have an issue with that?
“It is not for everyone – some men are not physically, or financially, capable of taking care of other women.”
He also stressed that polygamy was not limited to the Muslim faith
He said: “Two hundred years ago, there were British viceroys who had seven or eight wives.
“Islam puts a limit on the number of wives, while with other religions there is no limit.
“If it is good for me and God, it must be fine.”
Visitors to SecondWife.com first click on a verse from the Quran: “Then marry women of your choice, two or three, or four, but if you fear that you will not be able to deal justly, then only one.”
Polygamy.com is tailored to a Western audience, declaring: “We specifically cater to individuals who are seeking a polygamous relationship.
“Browse hundreds of articles related to polygamy.”
With an increase in corruption and pornography, Chiawala said he believes that he is making a stand for family values.
“I think polygamy is more relevant to this current century than at any other time because there is a lot of human isolation,” he argued.
“I am a landlord of 20-plus units, and 95 per cent of them are occupied by individuals who do not have a family.
“If I can help them end that isolation, I will. As humans we need each other.”
