Sadiq Khan, aged 45, the son of a bus driver, put himself forward to run for mayor last year amongst other Labour politicians.
He was not the favourite, but as his history commands, he has come forward, beating all the odds and won the election to become mayor of London.
His parents, Amanullah and Sehrun Khan migrated from Pakistan to London before Sadiq was born, in 1970. He was amongst eight children – seven sons and a daughter. His mom, a seamstress and his father, a bus driver, he saw the life they lived and sought to change it.
From a human rights solicitor to now becoming a mayor, he has embodied the saying of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), a saying he has spoken about, a saying his father, the bus driver, has taught him, “if one sees something wrong, one has the duty to try to change it”.
