The Asian Wedding Industry’s finest and outstanding businesses were celebrated by their colleagues at the national Asian Wedding Awards, on 14 March 2016, Renaissance Manchester City Centre Hotel. The top names in Asian Weddings business from wedding planners, photographers, card makers, to the caterers, venue dressers, filmmakers, hair stylists, makeup artists to toastmasters, were joined by celebrities and dignitaries to celebrate and acknowledge the industry.
The Asian Wedding Awards North, in association with, Al Murad Tiles, Costco Wholesale (Oldham), The British Institute of Professional Photographers, DataCentre Plus, Legacy Law Solicitors, Barkers Catering Equipment Hire & Asian Venue Guide, Penny Appeal and Sony Entertainment Television Asia & SAB TV, are part of the national Asian Wedding Award. The awards celebrate and honor the people and businesses who make couples wedding dreams a reality, and rewarding their tireless devotion, creativity and inspiration, in what can only be described as a unique industry contributing around £72million per year to the local economy.
The Gala Dinner now in its third year, was hosted by Raj Parmar & Neetal Parekh, who were joined amongst others by Talat Farooq Awan of the BBC, actress Afshan Azad, The Worshipful Mayors of Stockport and Oldham Metropolitan Borough, to announce and present 22 awards including Wedding Professional of the Year and Judges Award for Outstanding Contribution.
The recipients of the Awards were; Bridal Wear Designer of the Year was awarded to Sharons Couture, Cake Company of the Year was awarded to The Cake Gallery, Caterer of the Year & Wedding Planner of the Year was awarded to Payal Events, Filmmaker of the Year awarded to Tariq Iftikhar Films, Florist of the Year awarded to Springbank, Grooms Wear Designer of the Year awarded to Ziggi Menswear, Hair Stylist of the Year awarded to Sofia Qayyum, Makeup Artist of the Year awarded to Al Bidaya, Mehndi Artist of the Year awarded to Primrose Henna, Entertainer of the Year awarded to Desi Nach, Newcomer of the Year awarded to Brands by Bombay Stores, Photographer of the year awarded to Opu Sultan Photography, Toast Master of the Year awarded to Malcolm Kindon, Transport Supplier of the Year awarded to People To Places, Venue & Stage Decorator of the Year awarded to 1SW Events, Venue of the Year awarded to The Sheridan Suite, Accessories & Jewellery Supplier of the Year awarded to Jewellery Box, DJ of the Year awarded to Delsonic and finally Stationary Supplier of the Year awarded to Designer Wedding Cards.
In addition to the categories based on the services the would be Asian brides and grooms will use through the course of their wedding, two special awards were also announced, one of which was a new category The Wedding Professional of the Year, This special award recognises an individual in the industry, who is not necessarily a business owner, but a person who is key to a particular business, and becomes a ambassador for that brand, the inaugural category award was presented to Tahir Malik of Royal Nawaab Manchester. The second of the special awards is the Judges Award for Outstanding Contribution to the industry is given to an individual who has been at the forefront of innovation in their field and someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the Asian wedding industry in the region over the course of their career, this year the Award was presented to Tarla Somaiya of Payal Events, a company that grew from selling cards and helium balloons to an organisation that has served over 1 Million Meals.
The 2016 Awards had over 300 nominees, which were shortlisted down to 122 finalists that were judged on elements including on customer service, creativity, dedication and commitment to find the 22 winners. The judges on the panel were Beverley Uddin Khandaker – Editor in chief of Didsbury Magazine; Talat-Farooq Awan – broadcaster and presenter of the BBC Manchester Indus Show; Umbreen Ali – Features Editor of Fusion Lifestyle Magazine; Rabbia Ali Shah – Editor of the Asian Wedding Ideas blog. The judges were in awe of the level of entrants, and were moved by the inspirational stories behind them, and the impact they have on their customers.
