The Sujata Banerjee Dance Company were the only classical Indian act to perform

Young dancers from Edgware’s Sujata Banerjee Dance Company were jumping for joy on Sunday (15th November), following their show-stopping performance at this year’s Dance Proms at the Royal Albert Hall (RAH).

The 13-strong group dazzled audiences with their kathak routine, ‘Basant’. They were just one of 22 acts to perform at the annual event organised jointly by three of the UK’s leading dance organisations together with the RAH to showcase the best young dance talent across the world

Sujata Banerjee, school founder said: “Taking part in Dance Proms 2015 was a truly incredible experience for our dancers – they all loved performing at the Royal Albert Hall and to share an iconic stage with celebrity guest acts was a dream come true. It’s great for the students to have this opportunity to see what their peers are up to, and performing in the finale, with all 450 dancers, was an experience they will cherish.”

Dance Proms was hosted by Matt Flint, and students shared the stage with guest performers Royal Ballet principal Nehemia Kish and First Soloist Yuhui Choe who performed the Grand pas de deux from Act II of the Nutcrackers, and Lukas Macfarlane featuring Dance UnTitled who performed their passionate contemporary style piece “Falling”.

The spectacular annual event is attended by dance critics, talent scouts and dozens of top names from the dance world. Patrons include Matt Flint, Lukas McFarlane, Arlene Phillips CBE and Strictly’s Kevin Clifton and Karen Hauer. Dance Proms, this year sponsored by Capezio, was established to celebrate dance in all its forms and the unique relationship between students and their dance teachers.
