Bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement in deprived areas.

Founded by HRH The Prince of Wales, Mosaic is a UK-based charity that inspires young people from deprived communities to realise their talents and potential. Mosaic works in both schools and prisons and its volunteers give their time freely to mentor those who need extra support in overcoming often challenging circumstances.

Mosaic’s work in UK schools is delivered via mentoring programmes in both the primary and secondary sectors. The charity also runs an annual Enterprise Challenge competition in which teams of secondary school pupils are coached in entrepreneurship skills culminating in a Dragon’s Den style presentation in front of a panel of judges.

In prisons, Mosaic’s mentors work with inmates before and after release to ensure their successful reintegration into society. Mosaic has a particular specialism in working with Muslim prisoners who are significantly over-represented in the UK prison population. In the four years that it’s been in operation, the prison mentoring programme has led to a 20% reduction in reoffending rates amongst mentees.

Mosaic also runs an award-winning International Leadership programme which aims to develop leadership skills, inspire thinking about global issues and equip young people to become involved in their local communities as well as an International Enterprise Challenge that has successfully taken place in Qatar and Jordan and is soon to come to Pakistan.

Mosaic encourages mentors from all areas of the community to join its programmes but it has a notable record in working with volunteers from the business world. Mentors from some of the UK’s top companies have given their time to Mosaic and both their experience and stories of success have been hugely influential in convincing young people that truly anything is possible with hard work and perseverance.
