New Student Council Elected to Lead Abbey College Birmingham
Abbey College Birmingham has elected an impressive line up for the new student council, which will be imperative to future decisions of the college.
The council, made up of 10 students, is fundamental in ensuring that day to day running is managed and the wellbeing of fellow students at the leading independent college is voiced.
The students went through a process of elections and presentations to obtain a seat for the year which is chaired by Upper Sixth student, Amandip Bhamra.
During the course of the next year, the council must work hard, often operating on numerous projects at once and discussing college-wide initiatives.
Council leader, Amandip, (18), singlehandedly raised £376 for the national Wear it Pink Breast Cancer Campaign earlier this year and will help manage the important decisions the group makes.
This year the first decision has already been made and that is to continue its link with longstanding charity partner Acorns Children’s Hospice which is a network of care for life limited and life threatened children and young people, and their families. Money raised from events and donations throughout the year will go towards supporting the charity.
Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics student, Amandip from Kingstanding commented: “I am honoured and overwhelmed that my classmates have trusted me with this enormous task and I will do everything in my power to ensure this council makes a difference.
“We all have great relationships with staff at Abbey College which is essential to the success of the Student Council and we will be on hand to lend an ear to our peers whenever they need us.”
Principal of Abbey College Birmingham, Stephen Robinson said: “The council this year is a group of highly intelligent and talented students. The opinions of our students are highly valued here at Abbey College Birmingham, and so it is imperative that they have a body to represent their viewpoints.”
