Fashion in India is a rapidly growing industry with international events such as the India Fashion Week and annual shows by fashion designers in the major cities of the country.
London’s first ever India Fashion Week this October 2015, a celebration of Asian fashion by national and international renowned designers. A catwalk lined with the best creative talent of the industry alongside the best shopping experience in town, what better city to host this event than London.
The figures complied by The British Fashion Council speak for themselves, the direct value of the UK fashion industry to the UK economy is £26 billion; up from £21 billion in 2009, showing an increase of 22% in nominal terms (source: Oxford Economics 2014, British Fashion Council). Fashion’s total contribution to the economy via both indirect support for supply chain industries and induced spending of employee’s wage income is estimated to have risen to over £46 billion. An increase of 23% since 2009 (source: Oxford Economics 2014, British Fashion Council).
India Fashion Week London adds to the impressive stats by bringing together pioneers of the fashion industry from both the UK and India to showcase a spectacular celebration of South Asian fashion. The conception of India Fashion Week London has been driven by the need for a platform to showcase the existing creativity of world-class designers alongside supporting upcoming NEWGEN designers.
Since the last decade the Indian fashion industry has moved from the embryonic stage to a globally respected powerhouse. Fashion designers have contributed immensely to the spread of fashion as a driving force, both among Indian consumers and select segments of Western markets. India can now boast of dozens of leading fashion designers, who can match any European fashion designer in their concepts, styles and designs.
The celebration of Indian fashion will involve fringe events in various places across London, ranging from VIP jewellery launch events to well known authors on Indian fashion hosting seminars on the various styles and trends we see on the catwalks. The main event will be taking place at ExCeL London from 9th to 11th October 2015; this will consist of a shopping experience for any fashionista alongside catwalk displays running daily.
