One-of-a-Kind ‘Magnum Opus’ Titled ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ to be Released on April 17
B4U takes pride in associating itself as International distributors for the Hindi movie Nanak Shah Fakir, a first-of-its-kind film in about 600 years of Sikh history that is based on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak.
The movie has been depicted through the voice of his friend, companion and disciple ‘Bhai Mardana’, a Muslim Fakir.
Produced by Harinder Sikka, a retired Navy Commander, under the banner of ‘Gurbani Media’, the team, who have put together this magnum opus have the conviction that each day was guided by The Almighty.
Nanak Shah Fakir is presented by none other than AR Rahman (Two-time Oscar winner) who stood rock-solid as a guide and score mentor. Also associated are award-winning technicians Resul Pookutty (Oscar winner for Slumdog Millionaire) who co-produced the movie and designed the sound, Tuomas Kantelinen (of Hollywood fame) who has created a mesmerizing score.
The film tells the story of Nanak who traveled the world to spread Lord’s message of equality, peace and ‘Ik Onkar’ (there’s but One God), as a philosophy that has survived and risen above the flux of conflict and time, impacting over 100 million followers worldwide and giving birth to ‘SIKHISM’ as a way of life. (‘Sikh’ signifies a disciple).
Guru Nanak strongly believed that there is one God from whom emanates one morality for all humanity. He was referred to as ‘Shah’ by the Muslims and ‘Fakir’ by the Hindus, the highest honour given in both religions and hence came to be known as ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.
The soulful music in the film has been composed by Uttam Singh, while ‘Shabads’ have been sung by legendary Padma awardees, Pt. Jasraj and Bhai Nirmal Singh. The film features Arif Zakaria, Puneet Sikka, Adil Hussain, Shraddha Kaul, Anurag Arora, Narendra Jha and Govind Pandey in pivotal roles.
Shot in ten locations across India, the film follows the great Saint on an epic journey and presents glimpses of a personality who gave a unique perspective to human life.
The film has been appreciated by critics for its all-round production value, cinematography and historic content at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2014. It has also received full support from the Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
This factual account of the life of a great guru will take cinemagoers on a soulful journey. Its deeply touching story will be universally appealing to all age groups and religions. It is set to raise the bar in the biopic genre with powerful performances balanced with a rich musical score.
It is pertinent to mention here that, keeping in line with tradition, Guru Nanak has been portrayed through computer graphics, facing backwards, amidst a ray of light.
With the strong overseas distribution network of B4U across the globe, this film will be releasing in approx 40 countries worldwide on 17 April 2015.
