Fight between Amir Khan and Devon Alexander to be confirmed this week
Fans can expect confirmation of the upcoming fight between Amir Khan and Devon Alexander this week. It is expected to take place in Las Vegas on 13th December.
Khan expressed his wish to take on Floyd Mayweather which led to him refusing a bout with Alexander, but Mayweather is set to fight Marcos Maidana instead.
Khan fought on the undercard of Mayweather’s majority decision over the Argentine, ultimately beating Luis Collazo.
It was Khan’s third successive win since July 2012’s defeat by Danny Garcia, elevating his professional record to 29 wins and three defeats.
The Bolton fighter has avoided demands of Sheffield’s IBF champion Kell Brook for a domestic fight, preferring a bout with American boxer Robert Guerrero.
He is now set to face 27-year-old Alexander who has only been defeated by Shawn Porter and Timothy Bradley.
In April Khan signed a deal to work with American match-maker Al Haymon, also advising Mayweather, in an attempt to get closer to meeting the American boxer in the ring.
Khan’s Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is assured the fight will take place this time most likely in the Mandalay Bay Casino venue,
“Amir Khan looked good against my boy Collazo, but I have a feeling he wants to make a statement against Alexander, and Alexander is coming off a good win in a good action fight with Soto Karass. There are just little details that we are finishing but Khan and Alexander are going to fight,” the promoter Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.com on Monday. “What’s happening here is they realise they have to prove themselves if they want to get a really big fight, like against Mayweather.”
