Officers investigating an assault and racist incident on a bus in Mountsorrel are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

 

The incident took place at about 12pm on Friday March 14 on a Arriva bus, possibly number 126 or 127, which was travelling from Loughborough towards Mountsorrel, a man on the bus began making racist comments towards an Asian family and when another passenger intervened the suspect assaulted him.

 

The victim received minor injuries and didn’t require hospital treatment. A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

 

PC 1948 Chris Hayton is investigating the incident, he said: “There were a number of people on the bus at the time that we would like to speak to, in particular the Asian family who were the subject of racial abuse.

 

“If you were travelling on this bus and recall the incident please get in touch. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.”
