Man shot in Handsworth on Friday (Oct 25) was involved in an argument
DETECTIVES believe a man shot in Handsworth on Friday (Oct 25) was involved in an argument just minutes before he was targeted – and they’re appealing to anyone who witnessed the row to contact police.
Armed officers attended Babington Road – near to the junction with Soho Road – just after 4.30pm on Friday 25 October when a local PCSO reported hearing shots fired in the area.
A 27-year-old man was found lying on the pavement having been shot in the back; he was transferred to hospital where, following surgery, he remains in a critical condition.
Detective Chief Inspector Sab Johal, from Force CID, said: “Officers have been out gathering information and we now understand the shooting was the result of an argument 10-15 minutes earlier. The victim was in Bings restaurant on Soho Road ordering food minutes before he was shot – I’d like to speak to anyone who was in Bings and may have witnessed a row or disturbance.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have been in Soho Road, near to Babington Road and Murdock Road, at the time of the shooting and again would appeal for them to call me.
“Any callers can be reassured we will speak to them in the strictest of confidence – and if people would prefer not to speak to police they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Two teenagers aged 17 and 18 were arrested in connection with the incident and were later bailed until November pending further enquiries.
