Golden Boy look to 2012 for boxing face-off
GOLDEN Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, has spoken of his future plans for Amir Khan should the WBA world champion overcome Zab Judah on July 23rd.
‘King’ Khan is currently in LA training ahead of his unification match-up with reigning IBF world champion Judah. However, Schaefer has earmarked some potential high-profile bouts for the Bolton star over the next year, culminating in a super-fight with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
A fight with Mexican legend Erik Morales has been pencilled in for December, before moving up in weight to face British champion Kell Brook, with a money-spinning showdown against Floyd Mayweather in the summer of 2012.
“It is all very encouraging with Floyd ready to go, as well as Amir.” said Schaefer.
“Obviously, a lot depends on how Amir goes on against Judah and how Floyd fights against Ortiz, but everything is pointing the right way. The plan would be for Amir to have another fight in December, in the US again, possibly against the four-time world champion Erik Morales,” he said.
“He could then perhaps have a big UK battle, possibly against another Brit, Kell Brook, before moving on to face Mayweather.”
The Golden Boy chief also spoke in sparklingly terms when discussing the potential of Khan, who is now a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
“I believe Amir is the best fighter in the UK now and is destined to become the next pound-for-pound king,” Schaefer said.
“Las Vegas, the HBO network and more and more people in America are becoming excited about Amir. He proved in that ‘Fight of the Year’ before Christmas that he doesn’t have a suspect chin.
“Given his skills, his will, heart and desire to win, along with his personality, that makes him the complete package,” said Schaefer.
Khan is all set for his imminent test with Judah on July 23rd having been training at the Wildcard Gym since the end of May.
