FIVE men arrested in Birmingham under the Terrorism Act earlier this week will remain in custody after police were granted warrants for further detention.
Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit will now be able hold the men in custody for up to seven days.
The men were arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.
Six residential and two business addresses were subsequently searched.
Specialist forensic teams have left six of the properties and a large number of items have been taken away for examination.
Police said searches are continuing at a home in Hodge Hill and a business near the centre of Birmingham.
