Music duo to head Birmingham celebrations

TWO of the UK’s biggest Asian artists are to take the stage at Birmingham’s Diwali celebrations next month.

MOBO Award nominee Jay Sean and multi-award winner Raghav will headline the event on 9 November as part of the city’s annual Diwali festivities.

The duo are expected to draw huge crowds for the event which will be hosted at the City’s Millennium Point for the last time.

The event will also feature an array of new Asian music talent as well as a Sports Zone, a shopping Bazaar and firework display.

The celebrations are jointly organised by the Hindu Council of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council and this year will have an added touch of glamour with Asian TV channel B4U filming the event.

Jay Sean, nominated for four MOBO Awards, is expected to play a selection of hits from his latest album ‘My Way’, while Canadian star Raghav will perform songs off this soon-to-be released album ‘Identity’.

Mahendra Dabhi, president of the Hindu Council of Birmingham, said: “This is definitely the strongest stage line up we have ever had. It is testament to the quality and growing reputation of the West Midlands biggest Diwali celebration that such great artists are willing come and perform.

“The Diwali extravaganza will have a huge number of attractions to suit all members of the family and all members of the community and this joyous celebration that symbolises the power of good to triumph over evil has significance and meaning for all of Birmingham’s communities.”
