Youngster bags top spot at Junior Olympic Games
A YOUNG Karate and Taekwondo star from Preston is helping fly the flag for Great Britain after winning a Gold medal at the Junior Olympic Games in America.
17-year-old Ferrari Faqiri headed into the games, held in Detroit, in buoyant mood after stunning performances over the past year made him hot favourite for the coveted gold medal.
And he didn’t disappoint racing to a well deserved victory in the Middle Weight Taekwondo division.
Alongside his latest achievement Ferrari also holds the Junior World Taekwondo Championship from 2007 along with the British and International Taekwondo Title which were both won earlier this year.
The Gold medal also bring Ferrari’s medal tally for 2008 to 16.
“To win the gold at the Junior Olympic games is a fantastic achievement for myself as it’s a main Championships to win before turning towards senior event’s, so I’m very pleased with the victory”, the young champ told The Asian Today.
Ferrari’s father and coach, Hashmat added the victory would spur the youngster for more glory.
“Ferrari trained hard for this event and the hard work paid off, now he’s got to finish the year off strong and work hard to prepare himself for the senior’s next year”, he said.
