City mother scoops East Midlands Regional Award

LEICESTER learner Dimple Patel is celebrating her success after winning an award at the East Midlands learndirect Achievement Awards Ceremony.

Dimple won the learndirect Learning Through Work Award. This award recognises individuals who have developed their business skills using the learndirect Learning Through Work programme – a degree level qualification supported by a university as well as the businesses that they work for.

With the support of her employer, Leicester based Emerson Process Management, Dimple signed up to complete a BA in Applied Business and Project Management through the learndirect Learning Through Work programme at Derby University. Using the skills she has gained from the course, she has progressed through the company, from personal assistant to her current role as an international project co-ordinator.

Her line manager, Mike Connelly, praised Dimple’s achievements, saying: “Dimple definitely makes a positive impact to her project, which ultimately has a big impact on our core business.”

On receiving the award, Dimple said: “Winning this award feels wonderful! I’m so proud of myself and that all my hard work has paid off. I started late to learning but my family has been a great support and helped me to come this far. I feel I’ve now set a good example for my children and shown them that hard work will always pay off.”

Dimple will now go on to represent the East Midlands at the National Awards Ceremony to be held at The Science Museum in London on 20 October.
