ECB agree venues for tour
PAKISTAN cricket fans across the Midlands have been boosted by the news that two Twenty20 matches between Pakistan and Australia will be held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground next year.
England will act as a neutral host for the Test, ODI and Twenty20 series between Pakistan and Australia next summer.Twenty20 World Champions Pakistan have been forced to play ‘home’ matches outside of the country because of its precarious security situation.
Edgbaston cricket chiefs will expect the two Twenty20 matches, which will be played in early July, to attract huge interest given the large British-Pakistani population in Birmingham.
Test matches between the two teams will be played at Headingley and Lords.
Giles Clarke, the ECB chairman, said it was imperative the correct venues were chosen to allow “the largest number of members of the Pakistani ethnic community across Britain to see the matches between Pakistan and Australia.”
Warwickshire Chief Executive Colin Povey added: “Clearly this is good news for both the club and for the city of Birmingham. Edgbaston is renowned for its atmosphere and has proved itself to be an ideal venue for major Twenty20 competitions.”
