Northampton Punjabi Association Gift to Earthquake Torn Country
The Northampton Punjabi Association held their fifth annual charity fundraiser on 30 May 2015 at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northamptonshire & Huntingdonshire, raising £2300 for various charities locally and internationally.
Charities that benefited from the funds were Spectrum – a rehabilitation centre for adults with learning difficulties in Northampton, Teddies for Loving Care – who present sick minors in hospital with teddies to overcome their traumatic experience, Pingalwara – a home for the disabled and homeless in Amritsar, India & Sikh Union who run international projects across India and Africa from medical camps, clean water and orphanage projects.
An additional £325 was raised from activities that took place on the evening including ‘Guess the Cake Weight’ which was won by councillor Phil Larrat of Northampton County Council, a game of Kings and Queens and a photobooth service kindly volunteered by PKMatharu Photography.
Deputy Lieutenants Colonel John Royale and Neelam Aggarwal-Singh, MP for Northampton South David Mackintosh and chairman of NCC Phil Larrat attended the event to show NPA support for the work they are doing for the community.
Amrit Matharu, NPA Secretary commented “the real community spirit could be seen on the night which is all a phenomenal contribution to helping make a difference to people’s lives.”
