Police treating incident “extremely seriously”

DETECTIVES investigating an online bomb threat have arrested a second man.

The 20-year-old was arrested at his home in Walsall in connection with two separate online threats made against a local temple and a second unspecified target.

The man is being held at a police station in the West Midlands.

Officers do not believe this and the threat made against Birmingham Central Mosque on Sunday night are connected, but are treating both incidents extremely seriously.

Detective Inspector Nigel Harrison, who is leading the investigation, said: “We acknowledge that these threats have caused some members of the public a great deal of concern.

“Our officers have worked to quickly discredit the threats posted online and arrest those believed to be involved.

“I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as these are treated extremely seriously and investigated thoroughly.”

The 25-year-old man arrested in Rugeley, Staffordshire, earlier this morning in connection with the Birmingham Central Mosque threat has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
