Attacker Raisuddin Patel described as ‘dangerous and devious man’
A BLACKBURN man who subjected a young boy to a terrifying sexual attack has been jailed for over seven years.
Raisuddin Patel, 21, was described as a “dangerous and devious man” after he was sentenced to seven years and three months for raping a 12-year-old boy in April this year.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to rape at Preston Crown Court sparing his young victim the anguish of testifying in court.
Patel, of Buncer Lane, Blackburn, was also given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order and he will be deported at the end of his sentence.
The court was told Patel enticed his victim out of a takeaway on Whalley Range asking him to help move some boxes from a nearby shop.
The boy was then coerced into a garage at the back of the shop where he was subjected to a brutal sex attack.
Patel was disturbed when he heard people outside the garage and the boy managed to escape. He raised the alarm and Patel was quickly arrested by police.
Detective Inspector Neil Ashton, who helped convict Patel, said the victim and his family were still coming to terms with the attack.
“This has been an extremely traumatic and distressing ordeal for both the victim and his family with which they are still coming to terms,” he said.
“Many of our enquiries focused on the Whalley Range area of Blackburn and I am particularly grateful to the local community who had the confidence in the police to come forward at an early stage. This allowed the police to recover crucial forensic evidence that proved vital in forcing a guilty plea from Patel. Because of this, the victim did not have to suffer the trauma of giving evidence in court.
