Birmingham’s longest running nightclub is celebrating the latest chapter in its’ glittering 16-year history after a change in ownership.

But regulars to the club in Wrottesley Street will not see too many changes as the new owners are no strangers to the venue. Both have worked in the business previously for the last few years.

Former general manager of the club Jas Kaul and promoter and events co-ordinator Cowan Ogunnusi have combined forces as the new owners promising clubbers a sophisticated vibe and a passion for making clubbing how it used to be.

Jas said: “The opportunity came about to take over the club and it was too good an opportunity to miss.

“Cowan, better known to regulars as Curfew, and myself have been around the business a long time and have a great vision for it.

“Our aim is not only to carry on providing the great nights our regulars are used to but also create a sophisticated vibe aimed at those who perhaps don’t go out as often but relish a great night of entertainment.”

The venue features private booths and open viewing areas and dance floors on two levels and Jas said, whilst the club would not lose any of the characteristics which have enabled it to outlive many of its’ competitors, there would be lots of subtle changes to keep things new and vibrant.

For Cowan the chance to own the club he has promoted for years was “a dream come true.”

He said: “We want to give Birmingham a club to of proud again – a night out where people can enjoy great music from top DJs and a great atmosphere

“At times Birmingham has lagged behind the likes of London and Manchester and we want to return Bambu to its’ rightful place as the best club in the region as well as a real destination for people coming to party in the city.”

One of the first moves the pair have made since taking the reigns is to reinstate the VIP room which was always a popular haunt for celebrities and footballers visiting the city at weekends.

Jas added:  “We have a lot of experience in managing great nights and are really looking forward to putting our stamp in the nightlife scene again.

“With ourselves stepping up, it opened up the position of General Manager and we’re pleased to have promoted from within. Callam Davies has long been considered our protege and we’re delighted he’s agreed to lead the vision for us.”

As well as introducing a club mascot Pookie The Panda the venue will collaborate with events including Moko – Cowan’s own brand which will be organising this year’s glittering New Year’s Eve party on December 31.
