A BIRMINGHAM student has pleaded not guilty in the murder of a pregnant teenager.

22-year-old Harmohinder Kaur Saghera, of Solihull, West Midlands, is accused of killing 17-year-old Sana Ali who was stabbed to death in her Bury home on 11 May.

The University of Birmingham dentistry student appeared at Manchester Crown Court through a video link in which she spoke only to enter a plea and confirm personal details.

Ms Saghera was told she faces a ten to 15-day trial, beginning on November 13.

Mrs Ali was found with multiple stab wounds in an upstairs bedroom at her home. She was ten weeks pregnant at the time.

At Ms Saghera’s first appearance, the court heard Mrs Ali was knifed in the heart, stomach and chest and also suffered lacerations to her wrists and hands. She was taken to Fairfield Hospital, where she died.

A pre-trial review will take place on October 19, at which Ms Saghera will again appear by video link.
