A 62-YEAR-OLD man is in critical condition in hospital after being shot as he sat in his car on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at about 7:20pm at the junction of Heather Road and Somerville Road, Small Heath.
The 62-year-old local man had just left a shop to get into his silver Toyota Avensis car parked near the junction.
The vehicle was then approached by two men who smashed a window and fired into the car twice with a shotgun.
The victim suffered serious wounds to his abdomen and one of his legs.
The two gunmen then ran to a white saloon car driven by a third man. The vehicle sped off along Heather Road towards Coventry Road.

DI Simon Vowles said the motive for the shooting was unclear and detectives were keeping an open mind.
“The inquiry is in its early stages but there is nothing initially to suggest that the shooting is connected to any other incident.
“The victim remains in a critical condition. However, given that he was shot twice at close range the incident could easily have had far more serious consequences.”
The three offenders wore balaclava-type ski masks and are all believed to be Asian. Local house-to-house enquiries are also being conducted.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may information about the offenders, is urged to ring 0845 113 5000 and ask to speak to detectives at Stechford police station.
