Birmingham is the Top Destination for Disillusioned Londoners

Last year, over 6000 people the England capital for the second city of Birmingham. According to the latest migration statistics Birmingham was the favourite destination, which Brighton, Thurrok and Epping Forest following on behind.

Birmingham has seen booming growth and interest in recent years in the business and creative sectors, as well as heavy investment into infrastructure. Just last month, Birmingham was billed as Britain’s Most Enterprising City, beating out London and rival Manchester.

Emma Gray, the marketing director for Visit Birmingham, said:

“People may have older perceptions of Birmingham and have not seen how it has transformed over the past 10 years,” she said.

“Businesses both internationally and domestically are looking for opportunities outside the capital.”

“They know that by being located in a central place like Birmingham they have the best of both worlds, they can get back to friends and family, and because they are in the middle of the country they can explore more.”

Despite the opinion some may have of it, Birmingham is perhaps the most eclectic and unique place in England. It’s also the most multicultural as well as having cheap, affordable housing and good schools. The average London house price is £484,716 whilst the average Brum house is just £162,184. Birmingham is the youngest city on average, having the highest population of under 30s and university students. The city has seen an influx of young professionals due to low property prices and high standard of life.
