Since then, the tweet has received over 2000 retweets and 2000 likes, with dozens upon dozens flocking to support him and denounce the racist remark. His co-star Benjamina Ebuehi added, “So horrible.”

Afterwards, Bansal thanked everyone for their support, saying “Thank you for all the kind messages, I am fine, honestly. It’s Friday and the weekend is in touching distance, all good!! #positivevibes.’

Bansal is the only British Asian on Bake Off and has been well received by the audience due to his humorous antics. The 28 year old, who has made it through three weeks on the show, has wowed judges with his Union Jack Bunting Biscuits, using lime zest and coconut extract.

Previous Asian contestants Ali Imdad and Nadiya Hussain, who triumphantly won and now has her own show, also said they suffered racist abuse. Hussain said “I’ve had things thrown at me and been pushed and shoved. It sounds really silly because I feel like that’s just become part of my life now. I expect it. Absolutely I expect it.”
