Previous Lancashire County Cricket Captain Wasim Akram is being awarded an honorary fellowship from University of Central Lancashire for contributions to sport.

The bowler has spent 11 successful years at the club as a player and captain. He said, “It’s a massive honour and a privilege for me to receive this Honorary Fellowship,”

“I never thought I would be wearing academic robes so to get this award from such a fantastic University is absolutely overwhelming. I love Lancashire, I enjoyed playing for Lancashire, I still have a house here, I come back to visit my friends and everyone is so friendly. The people are so hard-working and that is what I learned from my time playing here, you have to work hard to achieve success.”

Akram represented the Pakistan national cricket team and holds the record for most wickets in List a Cricket with 881, second only to Sri Lankan off-spin bowler, Muttiah Muralitharan. He is considered one of the greatest bowlers of all time. Akram was the bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders and is currently The Brand Ambassador alongside Ramiz Raja and Director of PSL Franchise Team Islamabad United (PSL).
