A courageous student at Solihull Sixth Form College will be flying to Zimbabwe this coming summer to volunteer with the ICS (International Citizen Service).
Ibrahim Rashid is taking a gap year after finishing his A Levels and will be going to Zimbabwe for the Restless Development Programme from September for 12 weeks.
The 18-year-old Brummie will be living with other people and working with a team of volunteers on sexual and reproducive health and rights programmes throughout his stay.
Ibrahim said: “I’m really pleased to have been accepting into this programme.
“I will be provided training before I head out with a group of volunteers and I will be helping local businesses grow, help to protect the environment, and provide health education.”
The Restless Development Programme which targets 18-25 year olds will see Ibrahim progress in his team work and communication skills while helping a developing country.
The government funds 90% of all Restless Development programmes – Ibrahim has to raise a minimum of £800 to cover flights, food, accommodation and any other essential equipment.
