Less than nine months ago, the odds on Leicester City winning football’s Premier League title, were equal to finding Elvis Presley alive this year, a slim 5,000 – 1.

Leicester, who defined the term “rank outsider” have achieved the unthinkable after beating off their only remaining rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, drawing 2-2 with Chelsea.

In an era where only the richest clubs stand a chance of success, Leicester’s fairy-tale win will go down as one of the greatest in any sport, ever.

Receiving the trophy at Goodison Park: Leicester’s captain, Wes Morgan expressed: “I’m emotionally drained. I had to hold back the tears. I held them back, finally lifted the trophy and it was the best feeling in the world. There’s no better feeling knowing you are champions of England. I want to enjoy the moment. It’s the best time of my life. It’s like a dream.”

Boss, Claudio Ranieri, is in line for a lucrative new deal after guiding the Foxes to the Premiership League title, a year on from recovering from near relegation to the Championship.

Its fair to say former Chelseam Juventus and Greece manager Ranieri has been a revelation for the team, since his arrival last.

The proud Leicester City manager has been reported to saying: “It felt good, it was amazing. I tried to be strong, without emotion, so I lived the moment better.”

For the few lucky punters, who were brave enough to back the seasons ‘joke bet,’ the result means winning up to “100,000 each, a prospect the nations broker wont be to pleased about. They will be expected to pay out round £25 million, making it the biggest loss in British history on a single sporting market.

As Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The Leicester City story is truly phenomenal – we’ll never see another long shot go from rags to riches like this again. At the start of the season there was as much chance of them winning the league as there was of Elvis turning up at the ground alive and well.
