Proceeds Go To Unique Home for Girls
The next fundraising event for international charity, Unique Home for Girls, has been announced. Giddha Pao Kuriyo, a women’s only giddha and bolliyan event will aim to raise money for the charity that takes in abandoned girls, raises them and gives them a life beyond imaginable. Located in the heart of Punjab and established in 1993 by Prakash Kaur, who had been abandoned herself, the home caters to give girls back their lives through education and most importantly, love. “I see these children as mine. They are not abandoned and are never made to feel that they were abandoned. Seeing the smile on their face fills my heart with joy.” Prakash says.
The event aims to capture, celebrate and commemorate the vibrancy and vivaciousness of the true Punjabi culture. Talking to The Asian Today, organisers of the event, Baljinder Nizzer, Senior HR Consultant at Services4Schools and Manjit Kang, Women in Business specialist at NatWest Bank said, “We have organised this charity event to create awareness and raise funds for Unique Home in Punjab. Bibi Parkash Kaur Ji has dedicated her life to bringing up abandoned and unwanted girls. There are still parts of society where a girl child is less preferred than a boy. We wish to celebrate the life and dedication of Bibi Ji by embracing all the great things about our Punjabi culture and what better way than for women to come together and enjoy Punjabi traditional dancing and singing.”
