Proceeds Will Go To Unique Home for Girls
A mela has been organised to highlight the incredible work by Punjab based Unique Home for Girls. Organised by Trustee for UK Friends of Unique Homes for Girls Rupinder Kaur and Sharan Ghuman, the event will involve live music, food and stalls. Talking to The Asian Today, Sharan said, “I had the fantastic privilege of visiting the home in April this year. Wow, what can I say, it was one of the most amazing emotional experiences of my life. It has just made my resolve stronger. We have chosen to hold a Teeyan Da Mela because it promotes the positives of being a woman. What better way to celebrate the importance of the girl child than to promote an age old custom that has been celebrated for centuries in India. The coming together of women and celebrating sisterhood is part of our heritage, why then are our girls still being killed and abandoned for simply being born a girl? All money raised from the event will go directly to the home.”
