Afridi Alongside Ahmed Shahzad Made Apperance at UK Fundraiser
Shahaan Haroon – a budding British born cricketer who is of Pakistani origin met his hero the great Pakistani cricketing legend Shahid Afridi on Friday at the CSN International Conference and Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
Popularly known as ‘Boom Boom Afridi’, Shahid Afridi also signed a cricket ball for Shahaan Haroon to aid the ‘Support Thalassemia Children’ campaign with this and one other fundraising event at the Lords Ground in London.
Shahaan Haroon, who attended with his father businessman Haroon Hussain, is a pupil at the Victoria School in Burton upon Trent and the grandson of Mohammed Jamil – President of the Midlands Community Association.
34 years old Shahid Afridi – an all-rounder, but known more for his aggressive batting style between 1996 and 2012 played 27 Tests, 350 One Day Internationals and 59 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for the Pakistani national team.
He previously held the record for the fastest ODI century in 37 deliveries (now broken by Corey Anderson who took one delivery less). He also holds the distinction of having hit the most number of sixes in the history of ODI cricket.
UNICEF and Pakistani authorities have taken Shahid Afridi on board for its anti-polio campaign in the tribal belt of lawless Waziristan region. Haroon and Shahaan also met Pakistani cricketers Ahmed Shahzad and Abdul Razzaq.
Mohammed Jamil said that it was absolutely a great honour and a pleasure for his grandson and son-in-law to meet one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He said that Shahid Afridi is the idol to millions around the world.
